What better way to show that you stand with the gay community in celebrating their recent win in the fight for marriage equality than by wearing symbols of LGBT pride. Whether it is throwing on a gay pride t-shirt, sporting a temporary tattoo, or placing a rainbow bumper sticker on your car, there are many ways to show your support and solidarity.
The Status Quo
It is worth remembering that it was only in June 2015 that the Supreme Court of the United States voted in a landmark decision that guarantees all American citizens the right to same-sex marriage. The truth, however, is that while the LGBT community now has this legal right, the fight is still far from over when it came to changing people’s minds and hearts. Right now, despite the landmark win, children brought up in same-sex households still suffer the stigma that they do not have the “ideal” nuclear family that is often portrayed in popular culture.
How You Can Change Things
You can help change this stigma by being a role model for the younger generation. Showing support for the LGBT community can be as simple as wearing a gay pride t-shirt or even drinking from a rainbow-designed coffee mug so you can let your workplace know of your personal views. Because while America has come a long way when it comes to same-sex marriages, there is still many a million miles to go.
